Skip the tourist traps. These are the spots where Bondi locals actually eat their morning meal — from legendary flat whites to the best avocado toast in the Eastern Suburbs.

Bondi has more cafes per square kilometre than almost anywhere in Australia, which means the competition for the best breakfast is fierce. After years of living here, these are the places that have earned a permanent spot in the local rotation.

Speedo's Cafe at the northern end of the beach is the quintessential Bondi breakfast. Arrive early on weekends — the queue forms before 8am. The acai bowls are excellent, the coffee is consistently good, and the ocean views are unbeatable. It's been here for decades and shows no signs of slowing down.

Sean's Panorama on Campbell Parade does Sunday brunch like nowhere else. Chef Sean Moran has been cooking seasonal, honest food here for over 30 years. The menu changes weekly based on what's best at the market. It's a longer, more leisurely affair — book ahead.

The Depot on Military Road in nearby Neutral Bay is worth the short drive for their exceptional eggs and house-baked sourdough. The fitout is warm and industrial, the coffee is excellent, and the service is genuinely friendly.

For a quick, no-fuss option, the Bondi Farmers Market (held every Saturday at Bondi Public School) has excellent coffee carts and fresh pastries. Grab a flat white and a croissant and eat on the grass — very Bondi.

A Note on Queues

Weekend mornings in Bondi are busy. The most popular spots will have a wait, but most move quickly. Weekday mornings are much more relaxed and the experience is often better — you can actually hear yourself think.
