Six kilometres of stunning Sydney coastline, secret beaches, and ocean pools. Here's everything you need to know to make the most of one of Australia's greatest urban walks.

The Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk is one of Sydney's most celebrated experiences — a six-kilometre journey along dramatic sandstone cliffs, past hidden coves, and through some of the city's most beautiful beachside suburbs.

Starting at the southern end of Bondi Beach and finishing at Coogee Beach, the walk passes through Tamarama, Bronte, Clovelly, and Gordon's Bay. Allow two to three hours at a leisurely pace, or longer if you want to stop for a swim at each beach along the way.

The Best Time to Walk

Early morning is magical — the light is golden, the crowds are thin, and you'll often spot dolphins in the water below. Sunset is equally spectacular, with the cliffs glowing amber and the ocean turning deep indigo. Avoid the middle of summer afternoons when the exposed clifftop sections can be extremely hot.

Key Stops Along the Way

Tamarama Beach, just 800 metres from Bondi, is a narrow, dramatic cove popular with locals. The surf here is powerful — it's often called "Glamarama" for its fashionable crowd. Bronte Beach, about halfway along, has a beautiful ocean pool and excellent cafes for a mid-walk coffee stop.

Clovelly is unique — a long, narrow inlet with calm, protected water perfect for snorkelling. The Clovelly Hotel at the top of the hill is a great spot for a post-walk drink with ocean views.

Practical Tips

Wear sunscreen and a hat — much of the walk is fully exposed. Bring water, especially in summer. The path is paved throughout and accessible for most fitness levels, though there are some steep sections near Tamarama. Dogs are not permitted on most of the beaches along the route.
